CANNING RIVER ECO EDUCATION CENTRE (CREEC) ENTRY STEPS

Design Intent: The Canning River Eco Education Centre (CREEC) is an education facility that provides education in the areas of the environment and sustainability to a range of age groups and people.

This project was to design the replacement of a set of small stairs to its entrance that were found to not comply with relevant standards, while also at the same time provide a higher visual presence of the entry point to the educational facility portion of the building.

The materiality of the entry stairs utilised the materials pallet (or implied materiality) of the existing building and its surrounds, such as weathering steel, galvanised steel and exposed aggregate concrete.
The stair stringer/ entry portal walls pick up on the existing angles in the architecture of the CREEC building. The stair entry portal walls are made up of a steel box frame clad in 3mm plate weathering steel.
